National senior Kabaddi championship begins

International Amateur Kabaddi Association president Janardan Singh Gehlot today said that efforts are afoot to include the sport in Olympics.

"We are trying our level best to introduce Kabaddi in Olympics. We are hopeful of its inclusion in near future," Gehlot said at the inauguration of 61st Senior National Kabaddi Championship here at the Patliputra Sports Complex.

The four-day national championship began today with Vidarbha winning the opening match in the men's section against Karnataka 32-14.

There was disappointment in store for the local fans when hosts Bihar went down fighting 33-35 against Uttar Pradesh.

In the women's section, Vidarbha team lost to Haryana 17-29 while former runner-up Maharashtra pipped West Bengal 40-17.
