India's natural rubber production increased by 21 per cent to 58,000 tonnes in August, while imports shot up by 27 per cent to 47,540 tonnes, according to Rubber Board data.
Production stood at 48,000 tonnes while imports were at 37,413 tonnes during August 2015.
According to the data, natural rubber consumption rose by 6 per cent to 87,500 tonnes in August 2016 compared to 82,725 tonnes in the year-ago period.

Exports fell to 28 tonnes from 155 tonnes during the period under review.
In the first five months of this fiscal, natural rubber production rose by 8 per cent to 2,45,000 tonnes from 2,27,000 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The consumption also went up by 6 per cent to 4,33,090 tonnes during April-August period of this fiscal from 4,09,660 tonnes in the year-ago period.
Natural rubber imports rose by 2.05 per cent to 1,96,128 tonnes during the first five months of the current fiscal from 1,92,174 tonnes in the same period of the previous year, while exports increased to 295 tonnes from 208 tonnes during the period under review.
