The second leg of "Sea Riders Patrol Motorcycle Expedition" undertaken by Naval officers was flagged off today at Indian Naval Academy in neighbouring Ezhimala.
INA Deputy Commandant and chief instructor, Rear Admiral Puneet Chadha, flagged off the expedition, an INA release said.
The 20-member motorcycle expedition team comprising Naval officers, including women, from Goa Naval Area commenced their journey from Mumbai on May 5, to commemorate the golden jubilee of Western Naval Command.
The 17-day coastal motorcycle expedition covering more than 6,000 km from Mumbai will culminate at Kolkata on May 21 after touching all coastal states, an INA release said.
With an aim to highlight the need for coastal security among the civil population and also to create awareness on maritime history of coastal India, the riders visited the lighthouses at Jaigarh, Vengurla, Fort Aguada, Bhatkal, Kaup before arriving in Ezhimala.
The crew members would visit lighthouses located at Calicut and Kannur, the release said.
