Four persons, including a naval officer, died after the car they were travelling in ran into a truck on the National Highway-16 near Kotturu Narasingaraopeta under Anakapalle rural police station limits in the district late last night.

The Naval officer was identified as Captain Ch Rammohan Rao (45). The other three deceased were P Premsai (42), his father-in-law K Mutyalu (62) and T Raja Rao (40), all residents of Visakhapatnam city, police said.

The accident took place sometime between 12.15 am and 12.40 am when the four were returning from Eluru in West Godavari district after attending a wedding.

The police said the Hyundai car driven by Captain Rao hit the truck coming from the opposite direction. The stretch of the road wasn't sufficiently lit at the time.

DSP (Anakapalle) A Purosotham said the car was speeding and Rammohan Rao apparently failed to control it.

The impact was such that the car was reduced to a mangled heap, he said.
