Naval personnel undertake clean-up drive in Kochi

In pursuance of the Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan scheme, the personnel of the Naval base here undertook a clean-up drive in different areas of the city.

The two-day clean up drive, which concluded today, was organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, as a tribute to the ideals of the Father of the Nation.

Waterfront areas were targeted for the drive this year as an ecology preservation initiative. Family members of the Naval personnel also joined the officers in contributing towards the clean-up drive as part of collective social responsibility, a Navy spokesperson said.

All waterfront areas surrounding the base as well as internal areas were cleaned and the garbage bifurcated into bio-degradable and non-degradable waste for suitable disposal. Tree plantation was also carried out, the official said.
 

During the drive at the Fort Kochi beach, yesterday, around a hundred service and civilian personnel ofNaval Ship, RepairYard, including women took part.

The event was inaugurated by Kochi MLA K J Maxy.
