Naval trainee officer tops in CUSAT B.Tech (Naval) course

Midshipman Kiran R, a Naval trainee officer, has secured the first position in the B Tech (Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding) course of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) for the year 2014-15 with a Combined Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 9.37.

He was part of 11 Naval cadets of the 36th batch of Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding course under the aegis of Department of Ship Technology along with 29 other students, according to a Navy release here.

The Department of Ship Technology, CUSAT, is one of the pioneers in the field of Naval Architecture education in the country.

It was established in 1974, in technical collaboration with Rostock University, Germany.
 

Midshipman Kiran R, hailing from Ottapalam, Kerala is the son of V Ramesh and Jayasree T K, adminstrative officers in United India Insurance.

He joined Indian Navy in January 2011 under the 10+2 (Technical) scheme at Indian Naval Academy (Ezhimala).

He then opted for Naval Architecture branch and joined Naval Construction Wing in July 2011 after successfully clearing the Common Admission Test of CUSAT.

Indian Navy has entered into a unique collaboration with CUSAT in training the Naval Architect officers of Indian Navy from 1987, in which Naval cadets undergo the course along with other candidates.

The Officer will be felicitated by Governor of Kerala, Justice P Sathasivam on Monday.
