Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated 'Odisha Skills 2018', the state-level chapter of India Skill competition organised by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) here.
Coinciding with the birth anniversary of the architect of modern Odisha Madhusudan Das, The two-day competition, which began yesterday, has about 7000 participants from across the state competing in six sectors and 25 skills.
Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said the competition would give a platform to the students of Odisha to hone their talents and showcase their skills in the national and international fora.
Union Petroleum and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also inaugurated a skill-cum-common facility centre for filigree craftsman of the city.
Pradhan also launched a Pipe-Fitter-City Gas Distribution course that will commence at the Skill Development Institute at Bhubaneswar from May 9.

From the same platform here, the Union minister also launched the Urja Ganga Gas Pipeline skilling project that came up in Sukinda in neighbouring Jajpur district about 30 kms from here. The project aims at giving training to semi-skilled and unskilled workers engaged in the Jagdishpur-Haldia and Bokaro-Dhamra natural gas project on the spot.
The minister announced that within six months Cuttack would host an International Filigree Exhibition-cum-Workshop.
"The emphasis of the Cuttack facility will be mainly on skill development of filigree artisans, develop hand-made designs of jewelry and create national and international markets for the products", Pradhan said adding that all stakeholders including reputed designers, entrepreneurs and market experts have promised to work for the Cuttack facility.
On the occasion a tripartite MoU was signed between NSDC and Gems and Jewellery Skill Council of India and Edujobs Academy to work for the Cuttack facility.
The Union minister also gave away pre-learning certificates issued by the Skill Development Institute to five goldsmiths of the city and announced that within two years all goldsmiths and filigree artisans of the city will be given training and certificates.
