Chief Ministers of Odisha and Tripura today targeted Congress and BJP, while addressing separate meetings in the state.

"The regional parties will have a key role in government formation after the general elections. Therefore, people should support the BJD in order to raise state's interest in the national level," Patnaik said while addressing a public meeting at Sambalpur.

He urged people to send more number of BJD MPs to Lok Sabha for the betterment of the state.

While addressing the second national convention of Adivasi Adhikar Rastriya Manch (AARM) here Sarkar, also a senior CPI(M) leader, dubbed both Congress and BJP as opportunists.

"Both the parties are now crying for the poor because the general and Assembly elections are approaching. But, they will forget them after assuming power. So, there is need for an alternative based on common policies to fight against these two parties," said Sarkar.

Stating that the Congress has always been a party for businessman and bureaucrats, Sarkar said it has never worked for the common people.

"With the election approaching, Narendra Modi is now seeking votes stating that the party will change the country. Has BJP changed the scenario of the country during the rule of A B Vajpayee? Was there no price rise, no farmer suicide? Both the parties have the same economic policies, which favours monopoly capitalists. They are either side of same coin," the Tripura Chief Minister said.
