Navy sailor accidentally shoots self

A 19-year-old Navy sailor was seriously injured today after he accidentally shot himself in the chest with his service rifle at the Naval base INS Valsura here, police said.

Chandrasekhar Chamanlal was admitted to Rajkot Civil Hospital after he accidentally shot himself at 3 AM, Bedi Marine Police Sub-Inspector L C Jesaliya told PTI.

"The service rifle of Chamanlal, hailing from Himachal Pradesh, went off accidentally, piercing his chest and causing serious injuries," Jesaliya said.

"He was initially admitted to Jamnagar Civil Hospital but afterwards it was found that the nature of his injuries was serious, so he was sent to Rajkot Civil Hospital for advanced treatment," the PSI said.
 

Jesaliya said as per primary investigation, nothing suspicious was found, but what actually happened can be known only after Chamanlal regained consciousness.
