Naxal arrested in Bastar

A Naxal carrying a cash reward of

Rs 5,000 on his head was arrested during a search operation in the naxal-hit Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.

"25-year-old Antu was nabbed by the joint contingent of district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) late last night from the forest pocket of Lohandiguda police station area of the district," Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sangeeta Peter told PTI over phone today.

"The naxal was a member of Kudud Dalam of Maoist and was using a muzzle-loading gun," she said.

"He was involved in looting a polling booth during panchayat elections in village Harrakoder of the region in 2010," she said, adding he was also wanted in several other cases of loot murder and arson.
 

The search party was on an area-domination operation in Lohandigua, Mardum and Chitrakot region, when it held Antu on suspicion.

Later during the interrogation, he had confessed that he was part of the Naxal network, the DSP said.

The arrested Naxal is further being interrogated, she added.
