Naxal carrying Rs 5 lakh reward surrenders in C'garh

ANaxal carrying a reward of Rs five lakh on his head surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district today.

27-year-old Suresh Kumar Minj, a member of Maoist's Kutul area committee, turned himself in citing disappointment with the Naxal ideology and their violent activities, Rajnandgaon SP Prashant Agrawal said.

Minj also looked after the Janatana Sarkar school wing of the rebels, he said.

A native of Sendawadih village here, he studied upto class 7 but dropped out when his father died in 2005.

Subsequently he joined the Naxals and was made the head of Chetna Natya Manch, the cultural wing of the Maoists in 2006 at his village, Agrawal said.
 

Between 2009-2012, he taught Naxal literature to school students at Gattekal, Kumbnar, Nedpara and Metabeda villages and worked in several other capacities, he said.

An "encouragement amount" of Rs 10,000 was given to Minj and he would be given other facilities and benefits as per the thesurrenderand rehabilitation policy, the SP said.
