An area commander of an ultra outfit and two of his accomplices were arrested from Porahat jungle under naxal-affected West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer today said.

Acting on a tip-off, the security personnel acted swiftly and intercepted a vehicle during the search operation in Porahat jungle yesterday, Superintendent of Police, N K Singh said.

The security personnel arrested Navin alias Upendra Paswan, who was then the Area Commander of Chatarapur in Palamau district of CPI (Maoists), and two other naxalites identified as Kanda Vishwakarma and Lofar Chaki, he said.

Paswan had served 11-year jail term in connection with the killing of the Deputy SP, Chatarpur, D K Rai, in Palamau district. Rai was blown up in a blast in June 2002, he said, adding that Paswan was recently released from jail.

The trio were travelling in the vehicle and were on their way to meet some naxals in Porahat jungle when they were arrested, Singh said.

Two pistols, some live cartridges and the vehicle were seized by the security personnel, Singh said, adding that further interrogation is on.
