Naxal couple held in Bastar

A Naxal couple, allegedly conducting a recce of the movement of security forces ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, was today arrested from Maoist-hit Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The arrested Maoist couple has been identified as Ganga alias Vikas Podyami (25) and his wife Samlo (22), residents of Nelnad region of Narayanpur district.

Acting on a tip-off, the cadres of Nelnad Dalam of Maoists were nabbed from Parapur village under Lohandiguda police station limits, a senior police official told PTI.

"Based on inputs about the presence of these two suspects near Parapur, a team of local police was mobilised. On seeing the security personnel, they tried to flee from the spot, but were chased and arrested," he said.
 

A tiffin bomb and Naxal literature were recovered from the bags, he said.

During interrogation, they said they were involved in several attacks on police parties in Narynapur area, he said.

According to the police official, the couple had been entrusted with the task of conducting a recce in Lohandiguda and conveying information to the Dalam cadres ahead of Lok Sabha polls, he said.

Polling for the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency will take place on April 10.
