Naxal couple surrenders in C'garh

A naxal couple, carrying cash reward on their heads, surrendered in Maoist-infested Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh today, police said.

The cadres, identified as Bodki Kowasi alias Sukhram (33) and his wife Ganga Madkami alias Manila (30), turned themselves in before senior police officials at the Bijapur district headquarter, a senior police official told PTI.

Kowasi, who was active as LGS (local guerrillasquad), deputy commander under Kamaloor area committee of Maoists, was carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head, he said.

The equally dreaded, Madkami was working as a member of Matwada LOS (local organisation squad) and carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head, he said.
 

In their statement, the duo expressed disappointment over the "hollowideology" of the outlawed naxal movement and violence.

Moreover, they were also impressed with the provisions ofsurrenderand rehabilitation policy of the state government, which compelled themto join the mainstream, he added.

A cash of Rs 10,000 each was given to the rebels as encouragement amount, the official said.
