A Naxal was gunned down today in an encounter with security forces in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The gun battle took place in the forest of Chhote Usri village under Bayanar police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Kondagaon Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav told PTI over the phone.
When the patrolling team was advancing through Chhote Usri, located around 250 km from the state capital Raipur, an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides, he said.
After guns fell silent, the body of a male ultra was recovered from the spot, he said, adding two firearms - one 09 mm pistol and a single barrel muzzle loading gun - were also found at the encounter site.
The slain ultra is believed to be Jugnu, a member of the LOS (local organisation squad) who was active in the region, Pallav said.
However, his real identity will be known once the patrolling team returns to it camp, he said.
