Naxal killed in face-off with security personnel

A naxal was today gunned down in an exchange of fire with security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kondagaon district, police said.

The skirmish took place early this morning between a small team of District Reserve Group (DRG) and ultras in the jungles of Kondagaon police station area, Kondagaon Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told PTI.

Acting on specific inputs, security personnel launched a counter-insurgency operation in the interior forest area during which they came face-to-face with armed rebels near Bavadi, around 300 kms away from here, leading to a gun-battle, he said.

However, rebels soon fled from the spot, he added.
 

During search, body of a rebel clad in uniform, besides one 315 bore rifle and one 12 bore gun was recovered from the spot, the SP said.

The identity of the killed cadre was yet to be ascertained.
