Naxal with Rs 8 lakh reward surrenders in Dantewada district

A dreaded Maoist carrying a cash reward of Rs 8 lakh today surrendered in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Dantewada district, police said.

Kama alias Joga Sodi (27) who was active as secretary of Kanger Ghati (valley) area committee of Maoist, turned himself in before Dantewada Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap, citing disappointment with "hollow" naxal ideology, a senior police official said.

A native of Polampalli area in Sukma, Joga joined the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in 1996 as a member of 'Bal Sangham' of the banned outfit.

After serving at different capacities, he was elevated as Machkot LOS (local operation squad) which works under Kanger Ghati area committee, he said.
 

Later, when then Kanger Ghati area committee secretary and dreaded Maoist military commanderSonadharwas gunned down by Odisha police in September last year, Joga was tasked with responsibilities of the killed cadre, the official said, adding hewas in close contact with senior Maoist leaders since then.

As per the surrender cum rehabilitation policy of Chhattisgarh government, necessary assistance will be provided to Joga, he added.
