A 25-year-old villager was abducted and beaten to death by Naxals after the rebels accused him of being a police informer, an official said today.

Budhram Podiyam, along with some other villagers, was kidnapped last week from Budarikarka village under Kuakonda police station area in Chhattisgarhs Dantewada district, an official said.

He was beaten to death on May 27 after Naxals held a "jan adalat" in a nearby forest, an official said.

The other villagers, who were assaulted and then set free, told police that Podiyam was killed as Naxals had accused him of being a police informer, the official said.

The incident came to light yesterday following which security personnel were rushed to the spot, the official said.

His body was brought to Kuakonda for post mortem today, he added.

A case had been registered and further investigations were underway.
