Dantewada Superintendent of Police Kamalochan Kashyap told PTI that the naxals killed Santosh Gupta in Tumar village under Gidam police station jurisdiction, using sharp-edged weapons.

"Gupta was attacked by a small action team of naxals when he was at his shop during the weekly bazaar. After the incident, the naxals fled away from the spot," Kashyap said.

"He was rushed to local hospital and later was sent to a hospital in Jagdalpur where he succumbed to injuries," the officer said.
