Naxals kill tribal youth in Maharashtra

A tribal youth was killed allegedly by Naxalites on the suspicion of being a police informer, police said today.

23-year-old Rakesh Karu Gawde, a resident of village Gurja in Aheri tehsil of the district, was shot dead by Naxals late last night, Gadchiroli police said in a release.

Rakesh was a second-year graduation student and was helping people by giving information about government schemes, it said.

As per the release, Naxals belonging to 'Perimili Dalam' dashed to his village and dragged him to village Tumarkasa where he was shot dead.

Following the incident, anti-Naxal operations have been intensified in the area, police said, adding investigations are underway.
