Two persons were killed allegedly by naxals in Chinnawatra village here on suspicion of being police informers.

According to police, the murders took place on the night of November 1 under Venkatapur Sub Police Station in Aheri taluka of the district.

The deceased were identified as Mukesh Atram (35) and Achantrao Portet (45), a police release said today.

Police suspect that naxals were upset with a largescale voter turnout in the recently held Nagar Panchayat elections in the district.

The murdered duo were earlier working as naxal supporters, it said.

An offence has been registered with Venkatapur Sub Police Station in this regard and an anti-naxal operation has been intensified in the area.
