Naxals kills constable in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh

A police constable was killed by Naxals at a weekly market in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district today, police said.

Somaram Majjhi (50) was shot dead in Karcheli, a village in a forested area, by Naxals this afternoon, Superintendent of Police K L Dhruv said.

Majjhi, attached to Bijapur police station, had gone to visit his daughter who lives in Karcheli.

Naxals arrived as he was sitting at a tea-stall in the weekly market and shot him, Dhruv told PTI.

Police have launched a combing operation in the area to nab the rebels.
