The News Broadcasters Association (NBA) will hold an annual lecture in memory of former CJI J S Verma, who was also the first chairperson of the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA).
"As a tribute to Justice J S Verma, former Chief Justice of India and Chairperson NHRC and the first chairperson of the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA), the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) has decided to hold a yearly memorial lecture on the theme 'Freedom and Responsibility of Media," a statement released by NBA said here.
The NBSA is a self regulatory mechanism set up by the country's leading news channels.
Verma, who also headed a government-appointed committee to frame a tough law to tackle crime against women in the wake of the December Delhi gangrape incident, died in April last year.
