Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the National Conference and the Congress are on same page to protect and strengthen the state's secular-democratic credentials and to ensure equitable inclusive development of all regions.

The two parties have joined hands not for power but to serve the people in accordance with their aspirations, he told a public gathering here.

"The NC and the Congress are on same page to protect and strengthen the state's secular-democratic credentials and to ensure equitable inclusive development of all regions and sub-regions.

"They are also on the same page to fortify the bonds of amity and brotherhood among various sections of the society and to work for peace and all round development of the state," Omar said.

Some people want to weaken the bonds of coalition between the NC and the Congress for their vested interests, he said.

"Ill designs of such people will not succeed," Omar said.

The Chief Minister's remarks assume significance in the wake of criticism by the Congress over the nomination of four members to the Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Council by the state government without consulting the Coordination Committee.

The Congress has won 12 seats and the NC eight in the recent KAHDC elections.

The NC and the Congress are sharing power in the state but they contested the KAHDC polls against each other.
