A day after PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed alleged "managed results" in 2008 Assembly polls, the National Conference today hit out at him, saying the statement shows "frustration" in PDP as it is "foreseeing" defeat in coming elections.

Refuting Sayeed's charges on functioning of institutional setups, an NC spokesperson said the state has come a long way in its efforts to strengthen the democratic institutions.

Sayeed had yesterday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged him to ensure free and fair elections in the state saying this was not done during 2008.

He had alleged that the "managed results" in those elections had impacted the situation adversely and ever since the present government took office, all the immense investment in peace and development in the state made by Singh himself had almost evaporated.

The spokesperson alleged that the PDP remained stuck to power despite standing third in the 2002 elections, while the NC chose to sit in Opposition even after emerging as the single largest party, he said.

He accused PDP of playing "divisive tactics" to gain power.
