Criticising the manner in which Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru's execution was handled, Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today accused the Omar Abdullah-led coalition of being a puppet government which had failed to protect basic human rights of its people.
"It is a humane issue, a person who has got the right...Our Constitution says that if a person is hanged he should be allowed to meet his family"
"You did not allow him to meet his family. Whatever has happened is past now, but today the big issue is that his mortal remains are not being handed over to his family," Leader of the Opposition in J&K Assembly Mehbooba Mufti told reporters here today

"Don't they learn from Tamil Nadu, I think they should learn a lesson from the leaders of Tamil Nadu, whether it is Jayalalitha or Karunanidhi, how they are fighting for their own people, for the lives of their own people".
"Look at Punjab, (Chief Minister) Parkash Singh Badal went to Delhi along with his son and said that they won't allow hanging of Beant Singh's killers", she said.
"But here this puppet government has failed miserably to protect the rights of its people...Even a convict has rights, his family has rights," Mufti said.
She further accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of discrediting mainstream politics and pushing more and more people to turn towards separatists.
"I believe somewhere National Conference feels happy about discrediting mainstream politics. More people are turning towards separatism due to dissatisfaction from mainstream politics.
