Opposition National Conference (NC) today observed the 34th death anniversary of its founder and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah by paying floral tributes at his mausoleum on the banks of the Dal Lake here.
Party president (and former Union minister) Farooq Abdullah and working president (and former Chief Minister) Omar Abdullah visited Sheikh's mausoleum at Naseem Bagh and offered special prayers this morning, a party spokesman said.
He said in view of the prevailing situation in the Valley, the party organised a simple function which began with the recitation of Quranic verses and ended with floral tributes.

Later, NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar addressed a function at party headquarters at Nawa-e-Subah where he impressed upon party workers to work towards making Sheikh's dream of making Kashmir an abode of communal amity and harmony a reality.
Sagar referred to the great sacrifice and service rendered by Sheikh throughout his life for the empowerment of people, inclusive development of the state, revolutionary land to tiller Act, social and educational reforms and strengthening of communal harmony and traditional brotherhood between various sections of the society, the spokesman said.
He said similar functions were organised in Jammu and Ladakh regions of the state.
