NC submits memorandum to Governor on flood relief package

Opposition National Conference (NC) today submitted a memorandum to Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra asking him to impress upon the Centre as well as the state government to approve a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the victims of last year's floods.

"Registering a strong protest at the continued refusal of the Central and state governments to heed to the misery of the flood victims, we appeal to you to accept this memorandum and also duly convey our protest to the President, the Prime Minister and the state government and impress on them to heed to the sufferings and misery of the flood victims by approving a comprehensive flood relief and rehabilitation package without any further delay," the memorandum reads.
 

The memorandum was submitted to the Governor by a delegation of NC leaders on behalf of party's working president Omar Abdullah at Raj Bhavan here on the occasion of the first anniversary of the floods.

The party asked the Centre to end "indecision and ambiguity" on the flood relief package and demanded comprehensive assistance for those affected.

"We reiterate our demand for the announcement of an effective and comprehensive flood relief and rehabilitation package without any further delay.

"While welcoming the intervention of the High Court, we also call on the Central government to end indecision and ambiguity on the flood relief and rehabilitation package proposal submitted by the previous state government and immediately announce a comprehensive package that would reach every affected soul and help in rebuilding their homes, lives," the party said in its memorandum.
