An instructor of National Cadet Corps (NCC) was arrested today after an 18-year-old student attempted suicide by consuming rat poison in her college premises over alleged sexual harassment by him, police said.
The girl had made the alleged suicide bid some time after she was slapped by the instructor for "insubordination" in front of her classmates yesterday as she was initially reluctant to attend an NCC parade but relented after her friends were sent by him to bring her, police said.
Feeling humiliated and upset, the girl consumed rat poison later, police said, adding she had been admitted to a hospital here where she is recovering.
The girl's father has filed a complaint alleging that the instructor had been making sexual advances towards her in recent months, following which the arrest was made, police said.
