The NCC National Games was today declared open and will see nearly 2000 cadets from all 17 state directorates in action.

The aim of the NCC Games is to provide the talented sportspersons amongst the cadets a feel of a major sporting event and prepare them with requisite match temperament and enhance their sporting careers.

It also aims to showcase and promote low cost indigenous games such as kabbadi and kho-kho among the youth.

The NCC National Games, to be held over 11 days, starting today to October 17, will see athletes fighting it out for top honours in seven sporting disciplines -- football, hockey, athletics, kabbadi, kho-kho, volleyball and shooting.

Football will be played at various venues in Delhi Cantt with the final slated on October 14. Hockey will take place in Major Dhyan Chand Stadium here with the final scheduled on October 16.

All events will be held in Delhi except shooting, which has already commenced in Asansol, West Bengal.

A colourful closing ceremony is planned on October 17 at Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt, where top dignitaries of the Defence Ministry are expected to attend.

The sporting event was formally declared open by Director General NCC Lt Gen Aniruddha Chakravarty.
