NCP chief Sharad Pawar has called for a meeting of party office-bearers from Goa in Mumbai on May 16 to discuss the crisis in the unit owing to resignation given by 19 functionaries in protest against appointment of Suhas Volvoikar as new state unit president.

The NCP high command had asked the office-bearers to keep on hold their resignations even as the appointment of Volvoikar was also kept in abeyance.

"The meeting has been called on May 16 at 5 pm. Sharad Pawarji will be there with party's general secretary Praful Patel and Goa desk-incharge Bhaskar Jadhav," NCP Goa chief spokesperson Trajano D'Mello said.

D'Mello was among the 19 office-bearers who tendered their resignations.

According to sources, the rebel group is lobbying for appointment of former minister Jose Philip D'Souza as the state unit president.
