An NCP councillor in Jalna Municipal Council and his supporters allegedly vandalised a toll booth located around 15 kms from here and also beat up the staff following a heated argument, police said today.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the toll plaza at Ramnagar, rural police said.

NCP councillor Noor Khan and two others, who were going in his car, reached the toll plaza around 2.30 pm. Immediately after, Khan got into an altercation with the booth attendant over some trivial issue, police said.

Following the argument, the plaza staffer was assaulted. After some time, dozens of supporters of Khan were called from the nearby places, who damaged the toll booth cabins and computers with sticks, police added.

The rampage was caught on CCTV cameras.

Both the parties have filed counter complaints and FIRs against each other and five persons have been arrested in this connection today, police said.

Further investigation into the case is on.

In a similar incident last month, enraged over demand of toll, Shiv Sena MLA Anil Kadam and his supporters had ransacked a toll-booth and abused women staff at Pimpalgaon toll plaza on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway in Nashik.
