State NCP today served a show cause notice on its MLC Vinayak Mete for being "critical" of the party leadership.

The notice was served on the directions of state unit NCP president Bhaskar Jadhav, sources said.

"You have been publicly criticising the party and its leadership on various policies. Senior leaders have been telling you to desist from making remarks against the party leadership. However, you have been deliberately ignoring the directions," the notice said.

The notice also accused Mete of violating the party discipline.

"He (Mete) was served notice today and we have asked him to reply within eight days. If the reply is found to be unsatisfactory, then he will be suspended from the party," a senior party functionary said.

Mete recently berated his senior party colleague and state PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal over the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report which criticised the latter for shoddy work of new Maharashtra Sadan building in New Delhi and also raised questions over issuing tender to a private developer.

The report was tabled before the Legislative Assembly.

The PAC had recommended a SIT probe into construction of the Maharashtra Sadan building.

Mete could not be reached for comment.
