Former minister Bhaskar Jadhav, who assumed charge as the president of the NCP's state unit today said that getting maximum number of seats for his party in the state, would be top on his agenda.

"Our objective is to get the maximum number of seats for NCP in the state elections," Jadhav, who was earlier dropped from the Maharashtra ministry, told reporters at the party office here.

Jitendra Awhad, legislator from adjoining Thane, also took charge as the new working president of NCP state unit. "We will carry everyone with us," he said.

The appointments of Jadhav and Awhad assume significance as the party gears up for the 2014 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections. They were made at a meeting of the party in presence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar here last week.

Earlier this month, NCP, which is in coalition with the Congress in the state, dropped six of its 20 ministers in recent reshuffle exercise. NCP chief Sharad Pawar had, in a surprise move, asked all the 20 ministers of his party to submit their resignations.
