NCP today demanded formation of a committee of ministers to study and address concerns raised by retail traders in the implementation of Local Body Tax (LBT).

A letter to this effect has been written by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and state NCP chief Madhukar Pichad to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.

A cabinet sub-committee should be set up to discuss the issue and look into the concerns of traders, party sources said.

NCP feels that the business community by an large has contributed greatly towards the welfare and development of the state by way of taxes and levies, hence the government should hear out their grievances and try to resolve the matter amicably, they said.

The traders do not seem to be opposing the levy of a new tax but their prime concern seems to be about the mechanism by which the proposed LBT would be collected, they added.

NCP assured traders that the government would take early steps to instill confidence among members of retail community.
