Patel was in the city to oversee arrangement for the annual convention and executive committee meeting of NCP to be held here on September 15 and 16.
Talking to newsmen, he said, "We want to put up more candidates in the assembly poll as the NCP has strengthened its position in various parts of the state."
The party had a tie-up with the Congress during the 2007 assembly polls and its candidate Jayant Patel, who is president of the state unit of NCP, was elected to the assembly from Sarsa constituency.
