The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Tuesday sent notices to the Uttarakhand chief secretary and the DGP, asking them to appear before it in connection with the alleged discrimination against an official of the social welfare department.

The commission sent sitting notices to the two officials asking them to appear before the it with all relevant documents on August 19 to explain their position on a complaint filed by Joint Director Samaj Kalyan, SC/ST, Geetaram Nautiyal, alleging discrimination against him and accusing Circle Officer City (Haridwar) Ayush Aggrawal of threatening to arrest him.

Referring to an earlier communication sent by the commission to the secretaries of home and social welfare departments besides the DGP in this connection, it said the commission was yet to hear from the authorities concerned.

The DGP was asked to appear before the commission personally but the chief secretary was given an option of sending an official not below the rank of joint secretary, who is competent to represent him.
