"In spite of our protest, she forcibly got the lock of the 'Dhuni' broken. We told her you can perform your puja at the other place, but in spite of our repeated request, she insisted on performing the puja in the Dhuni," Devlal Chandana, the president of Rameshawar Mahadev temple told PTI today.

When contacted, the National Commission for Women chairperson refused to comment on the controversy but expressed regret over the episode.

The Rameshawar Mahadev temple committee filed a case in a judicial magistrate court at Hindoli against Sharma on Monday, Chandana, president of Bundi district Gurjar Committee and former local Samajwadi Party leader, said.

The hearing in the case happened today and the court has fixed November 21 for further hearing.

The priest said the 'Dhuni', which was earlier used to conduct 'havan', was locked by the temple authorities as smoke emitted during the religious ritual would fill the entire temple.

"We therefore asked her to conduct the ceremony at the other place, but she refused, and got the locks forcibly broken," he said about the incident which allegedly occurred on November 2.

The temple is located about 16 km away from her hometown in Bundi.

Locals in Khatkat and Keshoraipatan towns held protests against Sharma alleging breaking of the locks at the temple.
