A militant was today killed in a firefight with security forces in lower Assam's Chirang district, a defence press release said.
"Platoon commander" of militant outfit NDFB (Songbijit)'s was gunned down by a joint Army and police team and arms and ammunition was recovered from him, the release said.
On the basis of intelligence about movement of militants in village Belguri under Amguri police station, a joint search operation was launched by Army and Police in the intervening night of February 4 and 5. As the search party cordoned off the area, it drew heavy fire from a house, the release said.

Two pistols, bullets and a grenade were recovered from the militant, the release added.
