He said the Punjab government would have to be fully prepared to evacuate people in case of any eventuality like earthquake as the region falls in the seismic zone.

Majithia said it was imperative for all to ensure that people were fully trained to deal with such disasters and the government would have to involve public at large in this mass education exercise.

He said Punjab would issue orders to ensure that all future government buildings were constructed using earthquake resistant technology.

He said public at large would be educated by a multi-media campaign to go for earthquake resistant technology while constructing their houses.

 

A joint cell would be set up comprising revenue, health, water supply, food & civil supplies and transport department to meet the challenge of any natural calamity besides providing quick relief to the affected population.

He said the disaster management department would designate MPs, MLAs and state and district level officers as nodal officers to oversee disaster management operations.

A special survey of important places like schools, hospitals, police stations, bridges and national highways would be carried out for their utilisation during any natural calamity.
