NDMC adds 10 more water tankers to deal with water shortage

In a bid to deal with the water shortage in the national capital, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) today added 10 more water tankers to its fleet for addressing the complaints of its residents.

The council is also in process of constructing decentralized sewage treatment plants at 10 locations in NDMC areas with different capacity of treating sewerage water.

"Keeping in view of the consistent and increasing demand of water, it is needed to explore additional source of water. We are also constructing decentralised sewage treatment plants at 10 locations with different capacity," NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar said.

"We have procured 10 water tankers at a cost of over Rs 80 lakh to support the water supply system in case of complaints of shortage or contaminated water supply," he added.
 

Already ten water tankers with a capacity of 9 kilo litre (KL) each, 14 water trolleys of 3.4 KL each and 13 stainless steel water trolleys of 5 KL are deployed at the water supply control room situated at Kalibari Marg.

"Total water requirement in NDMC area is 225 ML (mega litre) per day, 125 ML per day is received from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the rest 10 ML per day is met from the tube-wells," Kumar said.

NDMC also sends water tanker and trolleys to demonstration sites and religious functions free of cost.
