NDMC allots Rs 1.25 cr for repair of roads around Jama Masjid

Roads along the 17th century Jama Masjid would soon be refurbished as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has approved Rs 1.25 crore for the purpose, officials said today.

The Standing Committee Chairman of NDMC, Mohan Prasad Bhardwaj yesterday directed the officials of the Engineering Department to improve roads along the historical site. The north corporation has approved Rs 1.25 crore for repair of roads, a senior NDMC official said.

Bhardwaj has asked them to complete the work by November 22.

As per Master Plan Delhi 2021, a sum of Rs 145 crore has also been allocated for carrying out beautification work around the famed mosque, commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jehan in 1650s.
 

"The north corporation would improve and beautify areas nearby Jama Masjid as per the Master Plan 2021 at a cost of Rs 145 crore and for the purpose, and a consultant has been appointed," Bhardwaj said in a statement.

On November 5, the NDMC was directed by the Delhi High Court to submit an affidavit within two weeks on steps taken for redevelopment of Jama Masjid area here after the civic body informed the court that it has floated the tender in this regard.
