In order to keep their spirits high in maintaining cleanliness in the national capital, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) today felicitated sanitation workers who had outperformed their colleagues in the task.

"The civic body's Public Health Department felicitated its workers who have performed to exceptional level which is felt to be worthy of emulation by others," a senior NDMC official said.

NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar awarded mementos of recognition to one male and female safai sewak and one assistant sanitary inspector from each of its 14 Sanitation Circles.

"Drivers, mechanics and supervisors who contribute in waste handling in NDMC areas were also felicitated," he said, adding, three Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) were also chosen for carrying out efficient work proactively in their area.

In a first of its kind initiative, a 10-member team of sweepers and diggers were sent on an official trip to Japan and South Korea to get an idea about how cleanliness can be maintained in thickly populated cities.
