The North Delhi Municipal Corporation today launched its first interactive programme with citizens, seeking to redress their grievances and bring in greater transparency in administration.

The programme 'Municipal Corporation at Doorsteps of Citizens' (Nigam Prashasan Janta Ke Dwar) was launched by North Delhi Mayor Ravinder Gupta from Ghanta Ghar area in bustling Chandni Chowk and about 150 grievances were registered on the first day itself.

"About 150 grievances were registered, out of which 100 grievances pertained to water supply or sewage disposal issues," Gupta said.

The Mayor said the problems have been forwarded to various departments of the corporation and Delhi government, and directed to redress the problems as soon as possible.

He said the programme would be conducted in all the 104 municipal wards of the NDMC. At least one meeting a month in each ward would be scheduled, he added.

"Through this programme we can directly interact with the citizens to solve their local issues pertaining to the corporation promptly and try to make administration more transparent and accountable," he said.

Talking about the programme, he said, six zonal committees have been constituted and its members include senior elected representatives and officers, who will directly interact with citizens at the doorstep to solve their issues.

NDMC has six zones -- City, Civil Lines, Sadar Paharganj, Rohini, Narela and Karol Bagh.

Leader of House in NDMC, Yogendra Chandolia said this is the "best programme" for coordinating among the citizens and elected representatives, besides giving an opportunity for citizens to directly interact with officers of the corporation and to know the status about various development schemes in their areas.

Meanwhile, at a meeting of the civic body's standing committee, the panel approved to deseal commercial properties which were established till January 1, 2014, extending the relief given by the centre earlier to such properties.

"The move will bring relief especially to lakhs of traders, especially the small traders," the NDMC said.
