The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is planning to launch a 'home manager on call' service to enable the residents to seek services of trained household managers on daily basis.

The project is part of the civic body's ongoing plan 'Urja', which was started to provide employment to women from economically backward classes.

While last year NDMC had introduced a 'dabba' service for its employees which is managed by these women, this year it had announced launching of a all-woman cab service.

"The council is preparing a database of these women who can be employed for providing on-call help to households. They will be registered after due verification process and then will be trained at NDMC's technical training institute," a senior NDMC official said.

"They will be trained in operations of modern gadgets like microwave, dishwasher, washing machine etc... NDMC will also fix standardised rates for the services which are likely to be different for weekdays and weekends," the official said.

"The service will be open for residents in areas under the jurisdiction of NDMC and the bookings will be made by call centre of the council. The bookings will have to be made in advance and the services will also be available for catering and other similar works for house parties," the official said.

While the details of the projects are being worked out, the service is likely to be available by July.
