Masala Library, an up-market restaurant in the heart of the national capital, has been sealed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for violating building bye-laws.
The restaurant has been sealed for making unauthorised constructions, a senior NDMC official told PTI.
Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra, a food columnist and author, is located at Janpath.
The city's who's who, from top bureaucrats to celebrities, used to dine at the restaurant, whose specialities included a 19-course meal.
The NDMC's sealing drive has been going on for a few months now, and the civic body has sealed a number of establishments in Connaught Place for making unauthorised constructions, violating building bye-laws and operating without fire safety licences.
Our outlet has been non-functional since February following the NDMC sealing drive against unauthorised constructions, including offices and eateries in the Connaught Place and New Delhi areas. This is not an action pertaining to any individual or independent reason against us, a restaurant spokesperson said.
We are and have always been fully compliant with all norms and have requisite licences, he added.
