The New Delhi Municipal Council has suspended 17 of its officials after an NGO sent a CD to the civic agency which shows these employees allegedly accepting bribe from a contractor.
"We received a CD on June 28 from an NGO which has videographed our officials taking bribe. The matter was taken up with the chairperson who ordered their suspension," NDMC Vigilance Director Kulanand Joshi said.
The employees belong to the civil engineering department of the NDMC and range from Assistant Junior Engineer, Accounts Officer, to Data Entry Officer.

The matter has been sent to the Anti Corruption Bureau of the Delhi Government for further investigation which will also be conducting a forensic test to check the veracity of the content of the CD.
However, Joshi said that the CD is not clear about the time and the nature of the work on which the bribe was accepted.
But the officials were suspended as they came under suspicion and the agency wants to conduct a fair enquiry, he said.
"We have also written a letter to the complainant to explain and give complete details of the said crime," Joshi said.
A show-cause notice will be issued to the 17 employees soon, he said.
The Director refused to identify the NGO saying the matter is under scrutiny.
