At a meeting of the NDMC Standing Committee, the councillors cleared the proposal which said people could apply for regularisation of illegal construction till December this year.
According to the resolution, the NDMC could raise around Rs 1,500 crore by allowing the regularisation of illegal structures in accordance with the provisions of the Delhi Master Plan 2021.
It noted that the Supreme Court had allowed legalising illegal structures in accordance with prescribed norms and the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had raised around Rs 37 crore this way. The scheme had ended in 2007.
The resolution said that there were around 35 lakh properties which had illegal construction then but due to lack of publicity, only 5,000 applied and out of this, only 1,906 were processed.
In the corporation area, it said, there could be around about five lakh properties which have illegal construction.
According to the resolution, all those floors that meet Masterplan 2021 requirements will be able to contact the corporation for sanctioning. Presently, buildings are sanctioned as a whole even though each floor may have a different owner.
