NDRF, other agencies hold Tsunami mock drill

Disaster mitigation agencies led by the National Disaster Response Force today conducted Tsunami mock drills in eastern coastal states of the country.

The drills, to check the preparedness of various central and state agencies, was held at nine locations in Andhra Pradesh, six in Odisha, one each in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu and three in West Bengal, an official statement said.

The objective of the exercise was to check and review the preparedness of the agencies and departments involved in disaster management at state and district levels and to check and review the channel and flow of Tsunami warning, alert and watch bulletins issued by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) Hyderabad to various agencies.
 

It was also aimed to check and review the response of various agencies and departments to the impending disaster, the statement added.

The objectives of the drill, the statement said, were "met satisfactorily".
