Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that Congress victory in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur by-elections prove that the hype about Prime Minister Narendra Modi wave did not exist in the region.

The victory of the regional party Nagaland People's Front (NPF) in Nagaland also corroborates the same, Gogoi said in a tweet.

"It is clear indication that people of Northeast realised that Modi's promise of special treatment to NE is just lip sympathy," he said.

In Manipur, Congress candidate Elangbam Dwijamani defeated Yumnam Radheshyam of Trinamool Congress in Hiyanglam Assembly constituency while in Arunachal Pradesh, Congress won Gabriel Denwang Wangsu won Kanubari Assembly seat by defeating BJP's Rongnai Maham.

Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu of NPF defeated BJP's Visasolie Lhoungu Naga in the Northern Angami-II Assembly constituency in Nagaland.

Gogoi had tweeted yesterday that the Modi wave in the country was "on the wane" as BJP had failed to get a simple majority in Maharashtra and just barely managed to cross the half-way mark in Haryana in the just concluded Assembly polls in the two states.
